The Art of Advertising

The Art of Advertising

Have you ever stopped to ponder the question of whether or not an advertisement could be a work of art?

As we began to think about that question for this exhibit, we chose images and objects that met our definition of an advertisement.  For the purposes of this exhibit, an advertisement is any media the Dr Pepper Company produced to be viewed by a national or international audience. Advertisements can be found in print, like a newspaper or magazine, broadcast on the radio or television, or even a Dr Pepper bottle.

From there we ask you, the visitor, the BIG question: “What is art?” A few basic criteria emerged from our research, but in the end we agreed it was a personal experience for everyone. We invite you to judge our objects based on your personal feelings, prior knowledge and experiences, tastes, and opinions about art and advertising. Come wander through and participate in the activities we have throughout the exhibit. That is the great thing about art; there is no right or wrong way to do it!  You’ve got until the beginning of summer to check out what this exhibit is all about!
