Temporary Exhibit -- Prototypes and Beyond

DR PEPPER OPENS PROTOTYPES AND BEYOND

Have you ever wondered about how soft drinks are designed?  Well this is the exhibt                                            you have been waiting for!  The Dr Pepper Museum will be opening Prototypes and                                                Beyond, a temporary exhibit featuring a behind the scenes look at the development of flavors, names, logos, and bottles for the soft drink industry.  With cases featuring the process of the creation of the current Dr Pepper logo, a soft drink name that never made it to the grocery store shelves, and the new 125th Dr Pepper logo, there is something engaging in every case!

There are also several interactives throughout the exhibit.  One is an online interactive where you take your picture in the museum with your favorite logo and Twitter it to the museum staff!  Another interactive allows you to design your own Dr Pepper logo.

Rarely are you, the Dr Pepper consumer, offered a glimpse into the hallowed halls of company headquarters in Plano, Texas.  It is there behind sealed doors that the hardworking employees of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group work to complete their continuing mission. What is that mission? It is the exploration of new logos, the quest for new bottle shapes and the discovery of strange new flavor combinations.

Never fear, faithful consumers, these dedicated people have done their research!  Before mixing the heavenly elixir with any extra flavor and sending it to your local grocery or convenience store with a new logo in a new bottle, they spend time with your fellow consumers.  They ask questions of consumers while seeking guidance on logo, bottle, and flavor prototypes.

Look now beyond the prototypes to the design process that successfully launches a better Dr Pepper to you.

Designing a Dr Pepper logo requires thinking about a variety of things: appeal to consumers, current cultural trends, previous designs and overall brand identity.  Looking back over the past 124 years, which Dr Pepper logo do you think is the best one?  Vote for your favorite?
